ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Mr. Poloz leads EDC's Financing Group, which delivers a wide range of lending, structured finance and equity programs. He is also responsible for EDC Economics and the International Trade Intelligence Department. Prior to joining EDC in 1999, Mr. Poloz was with Montreal-based BCA Research for five years, and with the Bank of Canada in Ottawa for 14 years. He has been a visiting scholar at the IMF in Washington, and at the Economic Planning Agency in Tokyo. He served as president of the Ottawa Economics Association from 2002 to 2004. Mr. Poloz holds a Ph.D and M.A. in economics from the University of Western Ontario, and a B.A. (Honours) in economics from Queen's University. He is also a graduate of Columbia University's Senior Executive Program, and is a Certified International Trade Professional.

ABOUT THE TOPIC:

One lesson from the financial crisis has been that what we once viewed as “normal” credit-market conditions before the crisis were anything but. As the economy recovers and financial markets stabilize, financial intermediaries will find themselves in an unfamiliar competitive landscape - facing new challenges as well as new opportunities.
