ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Harriet Jackson was appointed Senior Officer in the Bank’s Canadian Economic Analysis Department (CEA) in August 2015. In this capacity, she provides strategic direction and leadership—overseeing the analytical work related to inflation and the monetary policy framework, and providing support for the Fixed Announcement Date process. She also oversees the work of the Assistant Chief and staff of the Regional Analysis Division, who conduct regional analysis on the economy and manage the Business Outlook Survey. Ms. Jackson’s current research interests include the international experience with negative policy interest rates.
Ms. Jackson first joined the Bank in 2007 as Principal Researcher in the Research department. She returned to the Bank as Policy Advisor in the International Economic Analysis department in March 2015 where she participated in and oversaw the department’s contribution to the Bank of Canada’s Monetary Policy Report.
Ms. Jackson previously worked at the Privy Council Office as a Senior Economist responsible for coordinating PCO’s advice to the Prime Minister on the annual federal budget and providing advice to senior management on macroeconomic issues. Later, Ms. Jackson re-joined the Department of Finance as Chief of International Policy Issues where she oversaw the secretariat responsible for Canada’s co-chairmanship (with India) of the G-20 Framework Working Group.
Ms. Jackson was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and completed both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in economics at McMaster University in Hamilton.
