About the Speaker and Topic

The new government is set to deliver its widely-anticipated first budget on Tuesday, March 22nd.

Harriet Jackson became General Director in the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch of the Department of Finance earlier this year. Prior to her current appointment, she was a Senior Officer at the Bank of Canada, overseeing the development of monetary policy advice in the Canadian Economic Analysis Department. Harriet has held a number of positions at the Department of Finance and Privy Council Office, working on international and domestic policy issues. Harriet has a Master’s degree in Economics from McMaster University.

The Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch provides analysis and advice to the Minister of Finance on a wide range of economic and fiscal issues, and plays a key role in coordinating and preparing the annual federal budget.

Note: Ottawa Economics Association (OEA) workshops are conducted on an off-the-record basis. The OEA is a non-profit, non-partisan organization run by a volunteer board whose sole objective is to put on a program of professional interest to the membership.  We are the local chapter of the Canadian Association for Business Economics.
