Federal Budget Review 2017

Harriet Jackson
General Director, Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch
Finance Canada

Our Topic

It is budget season again.  With a new government in the U.S., continued concerns about Canada's lagging investment and productivity growth, delays in infrastructure spending and limited fiscal impulses, the second budget of the Trudeau government will have challenging expectations to meet.  TABE is excited to have a return visit from Harriet Jackson, General Director in the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch of the Department of Finance, to guide us in a review of the government's initiatives.

Our Speaker

Harriet Jackson became General Director in the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch of the Department of Finance in early 2016. Her key responsibilities are supporting the preparation of the federal budget, providing advice on economic and fiscal issues and coordinating the work of the Minister’s Advisory Council on Economic Growth.  Prior to her current appointment, she was a Senior Officer at the Bank of Canada, overseeing the development of monetary policy advice in the Canadian Economic Analysis Department. Harriet has held a number of positions at the Department of Finance and Privy Council Office, working on international and domestic policy issues. Harriet has a Master’s degree in Economics from McMaster University.
