Tech North: Building Toronto-Waterloo Into One of the World's Top Technology Superclusters

John Kelleher
Partner, McKinsey & Company, Co-Founder Tech North

In 2016, a white paper was released titled "Tech North: Building Canada's First Technology Supercluster". According to McKinsey’s analysis, the Toronto-Waterloo tech cluster could contribute significantly to the economy - $50 billion in equity value, $17 billion in GDP gains, and 170K direct and indirect jobs. The report is a "blueprint" to drive the debate towards bigger and bolder ideas. These include major changes to capital and infrastructure and transformation bets on two technologies (AI and Quantum Computing) and two sectors (Fintech and Healthtech).

John Kelleher is a Partner and in-house executive in McKinsey's turnaround practice that focuses on providing elite leadership talent to drive large-scale turnarounds. John is currently the co-Chair of The Next 36, Canada’s leading program for Entrepreneurial Development; in this capacity he works with some of Canada’s top business leaders to build aggressive start up companies that are challenging large industries.
