CABE SUMMER OUTLOOK CONFERENCE August 28/29, 2017 - Trade and Globalization - Sold out
Trade and Globalization in the Early 21st Century: What's Ahead for Canada?
International trade and global supply chains are changing economies domestically and internationally. While protection is anathema to growth and many have benefitted from an increasingly open world, the populist challenge to the world trading order raises profound questions about who is not served by the status quo of established trading regimes and rules. Attempting to look through the uncertainty, this begs the question: What's ahead for Canada?
This summer’s conference is fortunate to start with a discussion of the issues by Catherine L. Mann, the Chief Economist of the OECD and one of the leading trade scholars in the US. She was the Rosenberg Professor of Global Finance at Brandeis University and from 1997-2011 was a Senior Fellow and visiting Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
The second day of the conference will examine the economic outlook, Canada’s perspective on and approach to trade, the implications of US initiatives on the world economy and policy adjustments needed to help Canada and other countries make the most of new advantages and recover from past challenges. We are delighted to announce Maurizio Bussolo, Lead Economist for the World Bank's Europe and Central Asia Office, will situate Canada in the global context at the luncheon keynote.
This conference has a long and distinguished history. Every August, usually on the last Monday and Tuesday of the month, the Canadian Association for Business Economics (CABE) hosts a policy conference in Kingston, Ontario. This annual gathering has its roots over 50 years ago as it evolved from the Moneco-Econtro conference which had been organized in Kingston since 1961 by a group of business and government economists to discuss the key issues affecting the Canadian economy.
Sessions are conducted in English under the Chatham House Rule. https://www.cabe.ca/chatham
