Over the past 18 months, there has been a marked pickup in commodity prices globally.  Patricia Mohr will touch on the economic & financial market developments impacting the price outlook for key base metals, oil and forest products that are of particular interest to British Columba.

About the Speaker:

Patricia Mohr is the former Vice-President, Economics & Commodity Market Specialist at Scotiabank’s Executive Offices in Toronto. Ms. Mohr worked closely with Corporate and Investment Banking – including the Mining and Oil & Gas teams – and with Global Risk Management, preparing the commodity price forecasts for credit adjudication at The Bank.

Ms. Mohr developed the Scotiabank Commodity Price Index – the first index designed to measure price trends for Canadian commodities in export markets. Pat is a frequent speaker at international conferences such as China Mining 2015 in Tianjin, the International Gold & Silver Symposium in Lima, Peru, PDAC in Toronto and the Platts’ Crude Oil Markets Conference in Houston.  

Pat holds an Honours B.A. Degree and an M.A. Degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia and is a Director of Alumni UBC.

Ms. Mohr has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors of Avalon Advanced Materials, a Canadian mining company aiming to serve high-tech industrial clients with lithium, tin and specialty metals. Pat is a Director of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, with a passionate interest in furthering Canada’s international trade and competitiveness. Ms. Mohr also serves on the Board of Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) – channelling public funds into leading-edge R&D for GHG mitigation. Reducing the carbon footprint of the Alberta oil sands, and securing Alberta’s economic success in a lower carbon world are key objectives.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Ms. Mohr spent a number of years with Alberta Energy Co. Ltd. (now EnCana Corp.) in Calgary and with CP Ships and Canadian Pacific Bermuda in London, England as Corporate Economist. Ms. Mohr began her career as a mineral economist with Natural Resources Canada in Ottawa.
