The Fiscal Outlook

Kevin Page

President and CEO

Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy (IFSD)

According to the IFSD’s Fiscal Sustainability Report, the finances of the Government of Canada are sustainable, broadly meaning the net debt-to-GDP ratio is likely to fall below over the period to 2064. If the IFSD forecast holds true, the federal debt will be almost entirely eliminated by the end of the forecast period. However, challenges remain including Canada's poor budgetary system for transparency, public participation, and oversight.

Join the OEA to hear from Canada’s First Parliamentary Budget Officer, Kevin Page, on the fiscal outlook. How much room does the federal government have for new spending in Budget 2018? What can be done to improve budget system transparency?  These are just some of the questions that will be explored.
