It is budget season again.  The Liberal government is now entering its "mature" phase with a lot of policy initiatives including the treatment of passive income. To shed light on issues addressed in the budget, TABE is very fortunate that Alison McDermott, General Director - Economic and Fiscal Policy has consented to come down to provide some context to the budget.

Alison McDermott joined the Department of Finance in July 2017 as Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch.  Previously she was Director General of the Science Programs and Partnerships branch of Innovation Science and Economic Development Canada, which manages federal investments in the higher education research sector.  Alison previously held positions within the Fiscal Policy Division of the Department of Finance, most recently as Senior Chief of Revenue and Expenditure Analysis and Forecasting, and at the Privy Council Office and Industry Canada, including its regional office in Halifax.  Raised in Toronto, Alison has a Master’s degree in Economics from Queen’s University.
