There is no charge for this workshop. However, as space is limited, priority will be given to members for registrations received prior to Tuesday, April 3.
For security purposes, no attendees will be admitted to the session after 10:20 A.M.
ABOUT THE TOPIC
The Bank of Canada’s quarterly Monetary Policy Report will be released on April 18, providing a detailed summary of the Bank's policies and strategies, plus a look at the current economic climate and its implications for inflation. The report will be available online at: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/publications/mpr/

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Jing Yang was appointed Deputy Managing Director of the Bank’s Canadian Economic Analysis Department (CEA), effective June 2016. In this capacity, Ms. Yang is responsible for the management and strategic direction of the department, which includes providing rigorous and timely analysis of economic conditions in Canada as well as advice on the conduct of monetary policy. In addition, the department also conducts longer-term research into issues relevant to monetary policy, including how to best design Canada's monetary policy framework and linkages between real and financial variables.
Jing Yang also held the Research Director position in Financial Market Department (FMD) at the Bank of Canada before becoming the Deputy Chief. In that capacity, she led the internal study on assessing the effective lower bound (ELB) for Canada for which she received the Governor’s Awards of Excellence in 2016. Before joining the Bank, Jing had worked in Bank for International Settlements and Bank of England where she held various positions with increasing responsibilities including a senior monetary policy adviser for MPC members at the Bank of England.
As a researcher, Jing’s research has spanned almost every area of central banking. Her work on optimal level of bank capital was covered by Financial Times and The Economist Magazine and replicated by a number of central banks. She developed the first generation of network models to measure contagion risks in banking system which has become a key component of the RAMSAY model at the Bank of England. She also developed a DSGE model with financial frictions which has become part of the new forecast model COMPASS at the Bank of England. During this period, she also had a short span at the European Central Bank. Jing holds a Doctorate in Economics from Concordia University in Montreal and MA and BA in Economics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
