The Atlantic Association of Applied Economists (AAAE) invites you to the following lunch presentation:

WHAT: "Changing Careers, Radically or Incrementally, in Booms and Recessions"

Our research documents how macroeconomic conditions influence the career mobility patterns of workers in Canada from 1987-2016. We examine both the likelihood that workers who change employers (jobs) also switch occupation and how different any new occupations may be. We find that the incidence of such occupational transitions decline in recessions and that patterns in the differences between old and new occupations depend on the nature of the job transition.

WHO: Dr. Fraser Summerfield (St FX University)

Dr. Summerfield obtained his PhD at the University of Guelph in 2014 and since has held academic positions at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. He joined the Economics Department at StFX as an assistant professor this past summer. His expertise is Labour Economics but his research interests also span a variety of topics in related fields, including historical labour markets and empirical microeconomics more broadly.
