E-Commerce in Canada: Is this the End for Bricks and Mortar Retail?

Tony Hernandez will discuss three things:

  • How much e-commerce spending in Canada including measurement issues/sources of data, penetration of total retail spending and in what categories
  • Growth prospects – what strategies are retailers employing (omni channeling, logistics/supply chain, domestic vs. international retailers including Amazon)
  • Impacts on retail property/real estate in Canada

Tony Hernandez is the Director and Eaton Chair in Retailing at the Centre for the Study of Commercial Activity (CSCA) and Professor within the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Ryerson University. Dr. Hernandez has presented and published numerous articles and papers on location decision making and analysis. His current research interests include location analytics, retail planning and location strategy, spatial analysis, data visualization and decision support.
