The Great Fiscal Divide: Federal and Provincial Outlook


The PBO will discuss their Fiscal Sustainability Report and their latest Economic and Fiscal Outlook. According to the PBO, total government net debt, projected to remain below its current level over the long term, and current fiscal policy in Canada, is sustainable. However, provinces have a debt problem, and federal transfer won’t keep up with the rising health-care costs associated with the growing population of seniors.

Yves Giroux is the Parliamentary Budget Officer. Mr. Giroux has in-depth tax, fiscal and financial, and social policy knowledge and expertise. For more than 20 years, he has been closely involved in the federal Budget process in various capacities and is highly regarded as an expert on federal budget making and the Government’s expenditure system.
